What is the hydrophilicity of white aluminum oxide?
The hydrophilicity of white aluminum oxide is its ability to attract water molecules. That index is very important for resin-bonded abrasive wheels.
The grinding performance of a bonded abrasive wheel depends not only on the cutting force of the abrasive grains. But also on the fall-off speed of abrasive grains. Grinding wheel products, especially resin grinding wheels, are grinding tools made by bonding abrasive particles with resin binders. The hydrophilicity of abrasive grain can increase the bonding force of resins to abrasives. Special treatment on white fused aluminum oxide can increase the hydrophilicity and toughness of WFA grain. The WFA grain is usually treated with iridium plating and calcination to increase hydrophilicity. By doing so, the resin binder will hold grains more tightly. As a result, the service life of the grinding wheel gets longer.
