White corundum F46 Refractory sand for powder metallurgy Sintering
white corundum(corundum sand/WFA sand) can work as refractory sand for firing powder metallurgy sintering. WFA refractory sand is a deform free, non-stick, or contaminate free material at high temperatures. It provides stable support and perfectly matching the demanding conditions of powder metallurgy sintering of stainless steel and alloys.
1. High refractoriness, no deformation or collapse at high temperatures
Fused alumina has a refractoriness of over 1800℃, maintaining its granular shape even at the stainless steel sintering temperature (1100–1400℃). This provides stable support for irregularly shaped parts, preventing deformation and edge collapse.
2. Strong chemical inertness, does not react or stick with stainless steel & alloy
Alumina is chemically stable and does not react with stainless steel or the protective atmosphere at high temperatures. This prevents the backing sand from sticking to the workpiece and avoids surface carburization or impurities, ensuring a smooth stainless steel surface.
3. Iron-free and free of low-melting-point impurities, does not contaminate stainless steel
High-quality fused alumina has high purity and extremely low iron content, preventing it from diffusing into stainless steel at high temperatures and avoiding spots, color differences, or decreased corrosion resistance in workpieces. It is especially suitable for food-grade and medical-grade stainless steel parts.
4. High particle strength and good air permeability, beneficial for sintering and forming
Fused alumina has high density and is not easily pulverized. It provides uniform support and good air permeability, which helps the billet shrink evenly, reduces cracking, and results in higher dimensional accuracy for irregularly shaped parts.
5. Good thermal shock resistance, reusable and low cost
Resistant to rapid heating and cooling, it is not easily broken after repeated kiln loading and unloading. Its service life is far longer than ordinary refractory sand such as quartz sand and river sand, resulting in lower overall cost.
In a word, white corundum sand ensures support, prevents parts from sticking, does not contaminate, and does not deform, guaranteeing accurate dimensions, clean surfaces, and a high yield rate for powder metallurgy parts after sintering.
