Why use white alundum grit for abrasive blasting?

It is very important to use proper blasting media on surfaces of acrylic, plastic, aluminum, etc. It is proved by using white alundum grit will avoid black defects. White alundum grit won’t pollute workpieces.

White alundum blasting media don’t make black residue due to the nonpollution advantage of white alundum.

Firstly, the chemical composition of white corundum is relatively single. More than 99% of its chemical composition is aluminum oxide with few impurities.

Secondly, the production process of white alundum is ceramic ball milling. That production can avoid the residue of Fe2O3 compared with iron ball milling. After the magnetic removal process, the magnetic content is also very lower. Sandblasting media such as garnet, quartz sand, and other natural abrasives, are natural minerals. There always exist other associated chemicals in those abrasive media. Artificial blasting media such as glass beads and ceramic sand are synthetic. However, their chemical composition is not single and there are metal residues. The Iron(Fe) element in the abrasive will react with the air and get oxidized to form fine black residues. As a result, it will affect the surface effect after sandblasting.

After all, white alundum is an ideal blasting media for applications such as rust removal, surface treatment before coating, mold cleaning, etc.
