What is the material of ceramic coating of WFA?

WFA is a traditional abrasive grit for making abrasive discs. It has high self-sharpening capacity and is sharp enough for cutting steel and iron.

But WFA toughness is a little lower than brown fused alumian. Thus, coating a layer of Rare earth or metallic elements can improve the cutting & grinding performance of WFA.

Generally, there are several types of coating for white aluminum oxide abrasive grain:

  1. Iron oxide(ferric oxide) -Iron oxide coated white aluminum oxide is dark-red color.
  2. Zirconia oxide-Zirconium oxide coated white aluminum oxide is white color.
  3. Chromium oxide-Chromium oxide coated white alumnum oxide is green color.
  4. Cobalt oxide-Cobalt oxide coated white aluminum oxide is blue color.
  5. Rare earth element cerium oxide-Cerium oxide coated white aluminum oxide is light yellow color.

We call all of above coated white fused alumina” Ceramic coated WFA” or” Iridium coated WFA”. The grit sizes include F16, F20, F24, F30, F36, F40, F46, F54, F60, F70, F80.

There are several advantages of WFA with coatings:

1. Significantly improve the cutting & grinding efficiency of abrasive wheels.
2. Improve the durability of cutting disc and grinding disc.
3. Reduce burning spots and stains from processing or cutting materials
4. Improve the working environment and comfort of grinders.
5. Reduce the detachment of abrasive particles and making less cutting dust.
