Iridium Coated Aluminum Oxide
Since there’s demand for high roughness in the abrasive tool industry. Iridium-coated aluminum oxide is developed. It is calcined with a compound-Iridium coating on the surface of each grit under a high temperature. After this treatment, the special iridium-coated aluminum oxide gets an excellent advantage in roughness, better ability to bond, better water affinity, higher self-sharpening ability.
Thus, when making boned abrasive and coated abrasive tools, the grit is more easily bonded with bonder such as resin, glue, ceramic.
Abrasive tools such as cutting wheel, grinding wheel, and flap disc adopting iridium coated aluminum oxide will perform sharper with longer life, higher work efficiency.
Iridium Coated Aluminum Oxide Improvement Comparing with normal WA abrasive material
Micro hardness | Roughness | Water affinity | Self-sharpness |
Increase 10% | Increase 10% | Increase 350% | Increase 15% |
There are Three kinds of Iridium coated aluminum oxide:
- Red color: the coating is with Fe2O3.
- White color: coating with non Fe2O3 Iridium. Suitable for contaminant-free abrasive tools working for aviation, food, medical field. And suitable for green color cutting discs.
- Ceramic coated aluminum oxide. This type is coated with a ceramic layer out of grains.
